Without doubt ECDIS is one of the most complex and advanced navigation aids on board a ship and it is therefore almost inevitable that all SOLAS ships will be equipped with it. High quality training and instruction are therefore essential requirements and this is where this book can play an important role. The aim of the book is to convey practical knowledge about ECDIS. Ralph Becker is professor of shipping at the City University of Applied Sciences in Bremen. In addition, he is one of the driving forces behind Safebridge, an HR competency management company with offices in Hamburg and Cyprus. He started his career as a seafarer in the service of the German Navy. He later continued his career in the merchant navy and obtained a Master Mariner certificate.
