Vessels sailing under the St. Vincent Country Flag are required to have on board this flag as part of flag state requirements that derive from maritime regulations in the International Code of Signals and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. These codes are published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as an ongoing effort to reinforce maritime safety procedures and communications to the international maritime community. Fleet management companies and ship owners are responsible to ensure that each vessel in their respective fleets have the appropriate flag signage onboard to be in compliance. This flag is used to identify the flag state a vessel is sailing under and to communicate with other vessels under the provisions of the International Code of Signals.

The St. Vincent Country flag may be identified by three vertical colored stripes with three diamonds forming a V shaped design in the center. The stripes are colored blue, gold and green, while the diamonds are also green. The blue color is representative of the sky, and the gold is meant to reference the beautiful yellow sands of the ocean beaches in St. Vincent. Gold is also intended to display the good nature of the native people. The central gold stripe is the width of both other colors combined. The green stripe represents the beautiful native vegetation that grows on the island and those islands in it's vicinity. Green diamonds are centered in the gold stripe, depicting the three primary islands that make up the Grenadine group, or the group of islands which define St. Vincent's location. The St. Vincent Country flag is designated to hold proportional dimensions of 2:3, height to length, respectively. It was officially adopted as the national flag in 1985. St. Vincent lies in the Lesser Antilles National Territory, representing the local island group.
