It is anticipated that ship's Garbage Management Plans will be examined by both flag state and port state control authorities and will be regarded as an integral part of ships' Safety Management Systems as required by the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. The ICS Guidelines are intended to help ship operators meet the new Marpol (and ISM) requirements.
