Sailing Directions 140 (Planning Guide) covers the North Atlantic Ocean, Baltic Sea, North Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea from the Caribbean Sea and the Bahama Islands to the Hudson Bay and Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea, including Scotland, Ireland, and the Northwest coast of Africa down to Liberia. 

It is issued for use in conjunction with Sailing Directions (Enroute) 131, 132, 141, 142, 143, 145, 146, 147, 148, 191, 192, 193, 194, and 195.
