U.S. Chart No. 1 provides mariners and ship navigators with information to help them read nautical charts effectively. This information booklet gives details of the chart symbols, abbreviations, and terms commonly used on nautical charts.
Chart number 1 has been created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in conjunction with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The document provides ship captains with chart symbols used on both paper and analogous digital charts. It's most commonly used with NOAA raster navigational charts (NOAA RNC®) and provides chart symbols on electronic chart displays. Charter number 1 is also used with NOAA electronic navigational charts (NOAA ENC®).
US Chart No 1 is a fantastic resource for all seafaring ships and is available to download in a digital format from the NOAA website.
