Sight Reduction Tables Pub. 229 has been designed especially for those in charge of seafaring vessels, as it aids with navigation. Publication 229 is available in a paper or digital format and has six volumes. Each volume deals with a different latitude zone, and there is a slight overlap between volumes to ensure marine safety and provide navigational aids for all areas.
All volumes of the Sight Reduction Tables help marine captains optimize celestial navigation at sea. These tables have been published by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). They can be used with the intercept method of navigation and consider factors such as latitude, longitude, declination, altitudes, local hour angle and azimuth angles.
