Overview
In order to achieve ECDIS certification, candidates must complete approved education and training that meets the standards of competency specified in the STCW code. Within such courses, evidence of candidate’s competence in the safe use of ECDIS and its interface with bridge equipment must be obtained from approved simulator training. The Merchant Navy Training Board’s ECDIS Simulator Training is designed to give guidance to those creating and delivering ECDIS training as to how this can be achieved.
Written in consultation with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), this book outlines the specifications required for the approval of a stand-alone ECDIS training course. It also includes a sample ECDIS Specimen Certificate and a copy of IMO performance standards for the use of simulators for training and assessment.
